Hats to Masks

Updated: Apr 10, 2020

As you’ve gone about your days in quarantine, there’s no doubt you’ve heard about the shortage of masks amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This shortage has created a wave of creativity for those needing to make “at-home” masks, whether it’s for a quick run to the grocery store, or to take the dog out.

As golfers or club members, we most certainly have access to some of the best makeshift masks right in our homes. Hats. Yes, I’m talking about those golf hats you either have hanging up, hidden in your closet or in a storage box.

While your course may be closed due to COVID-19 and you may not physically be with your fellow members, you have a fun, virtual opportunity to engage with them, all while showcasing your collection of hats! Now is a great opportunity to share in solidarity. We’re in this together!

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Select golf hat of your choice.

  2. Cut off the bill of the hat. You should be left with the cap portion of the hat.

  3. Fold the back of the hat and place over face, such that it creates coverage over your nose, mouth and chin.

  4. Options for attaching the hat to face include:

Method 1: Attach a piece of fabric, preferably elastic, on one side of the hat. Make sure it is long enough to connect to the other side of your hat. This will act as the strap on the back on the mask.

Method 2: Staples a rubber band on each side of the mask and loop ears through the rubber bands.

Once you’ve created your mask, take a picture and share to your Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter using the hashtag: #hatstomasks and tag: @clubhousesolutions
